There is/are 構文の文法解説

There 構文とは？

英語で「～がある/いる」と存在を表現する場合、There is/are の文を使います。この構文では、主語は be動詞の後ろに来ます。

	構文	例文
単数	There is + 単数名詞	There is a cat under the bed. （ベッドの下に猫がいます）
複数	There are + 複数名詞	There are two parks in this town. （この町には公園が2つあります）

There 構文の否定文・疑問文

文の種類	形	例文
否定文	There is not	There isn’t any water in the bottle. （ボトルに水が入っていません）
	There are not	There aren’t any chairs in the room. （部屋には椅子がありません）
疑問文	Is there…?	Is there a problem? （問題がありますか？）
	Are there…?	Are there any books on the shelf? （棚の上に本がありますか？）

否定文では is not → isn’t, are not → aren’t の短縮形をよく使います。

There is/are と場所を表す表現の組み合わせ

There 構文は、場所を表す表現（前置詞 + 名詞）と一緒に使われることが多いです。

例文	日本語訳
There is a dog in the house.	家の中に犬がいます。
There are many books on the table.	机の上にたくさんの本があります。
Is there a pen in your bag?	あなたのかばんの中にペンがありますか？

There 構文と have の違い

There is/are ～は存在を表し、have は所有を表します。

I have a book.	私は本を持っています。	所有を表す
